And yes, it's a scientifically proven fact that shiny does indeed equal faster!

thanks
for now what we are going to hopefully do is bend the existing pipes enough to fit the 429's manifolds. then we will run it like that for quite a few months then swap in headers and new exhaustFordTruck wrote:Looks good!

re: 1971 f250 DESERT truck- rattlecan rebuild
update, but sadly it doesnt include pulling the 360 or swapping in the 429
it wont be going anywhere for a while.
-dad and i rebuilt the tranny with our TCI rebuild kit and the new manual/auto valve body
-took the motor mounts to the welding shop i work at and had a big gusset tacked on. still needs to be welded up obviously
there is ONE nut keeping the 360/tranny in the 71. and OF COURSE, its the last one that had to be removed. and of course, its stripped, and of course it is pretty much welded on. its one of the nuts that are on the flywheel. and of course you cant get at it with a nut buster or grinder or anything, you can only get at it with vise-grips which leads to a very long time under the truck bashing your knuckles on the tranny housing
i dont think we will have any problems with strenght of these now
beautiful weld on the "ears" of the tranny
ohhh man look at all these parts that have to go back in exactly as they were removed.
back together
hope to have the 71 driving within 3 weeks (just a random time that i would like to be done by) so we can take it to the short-course offraod track by our house for a little testing of the new motor
it wont be going anywhere for a while.

re: 1971 f250 DESERT truck- tranny rebuild, motor mounts
Dang Ryan...
How many extra parts did ya end up with???
I know if I did one, there'd be at least half a dozen parts left over...
When I did the stuff on my '68 CS this winter, I know I put every bolt back in, but still ended up with a coffee can full of extra bolts...

thanks,
we bought a book from Borders that covers how to rebuild auto tranny's from ford. so we followed it closely. my dad had to do all the thinking but it was pretty hard putting it back together without screwing up. and it takes a long time, we thought it would be done in a few hours, but it took us like 6 or so, since we kept taking the end back apart to make sure we had it right. there are some things that make you think "whaaaaaaaaaaatttt????" and then you figure out that say the piston isnt fully seated and then it all works and fits.
id hate to rebuild a tranny again but will if i need to (with my dads help )
kaptn,
luckily, no extra parts
there would accasionaly be a extra thrust washer or something on the bench and i would have to ask my dad where it should of gone, usually it was just the last thing we put in that needed it.
man if we had to tear apart the whole thing after finding a left over part, i would go crazy
oh and there was a screw in the pan when i pulled it. one of the valve body screws. interesting
