Please help with plug wires (routing, order)

Post by Negative »

Hey, I just realized I don't know what the hell is going on.

I finally got my engine ready to turn on, went to put the plug wires on and then it hit me.. ummm which one goes where?

I know the firing order, and thats about it.

I know the rotor turns counter-clockwise, but which is #1? I could get it from there i suppose, but I don't know which is #1 on the cap!!

I feel like a retard!

Help so I can start this thing please???

OK... the first thing you need to do is put #1 piston at TDC... ON THE COMPRESSION STROKE.

To do this pull the spark plug out of #1 cylinder. Put your thumb/finger over the hole. Turn the engine over until you hear escaping air, then bring it to TDC.

Next, take the Dizzy cap off and see which way the rotor is pointing. It is pointing to the #1 spark plug wire post location.

Starting there, put the wires on in same order as the firing order.

The timing will be close enough that is should start, and then time it from there.

hth,

eric

Thanks! Yes that worked. More work than I wanted, but it starts and runs now so it was worth it!

Does this solve the problem in your other post too?

ok, sounds like you may be leaning out or it could be riching out. also are you sure you have it wired on the plugs correctly. 1-4 being on the pass. and 5-8 being on the drivers?

you probably do. i don't think it would idle too well with anything crossed.

Yeah, I was worried about the firing order, but I triple checked that, it runs amazing until you hit the gas!
