My 3 hp compressor tank blew a rust hole in the bottom, nothing wrong with the compressor but tank is now bad.
I did contact the company and to get a new tank for it would cost 300 bux.
Could I get one built for similar money or perhaps less?
I don't think any welding shop would be willing to try and patch my tank, and I have no idea how bad the rest of the tank is.
I know that I only spent about 300 bux for it 15 years ago and it hasnt had that much use.
The compressor is still like new, but I know for about 200 bux more I can get a new upright setup.
Any thoughts, suggestions, ideas?

$300 for a tank!? Yeah, you can get a 5hp Craftsman w/30 gallon tank, hose, and 3/8 impact and rachet for $299 any day of the week. If the tank is rusted bad enough to blow out a hole you can bet it's unrepairable. Eventually, they all fail, just like gas water heaters. While I don't really know, I'm guessing you'd end up better off just getting a new one rather than trying to fix the one you've got.

I would check ebay for a used setup. You may find someone selling one with a bad compressor or motor.

I buy compressor tanks off craigslist regularly for projects. Never paid more than 50 cents a gallon for one.
I had a small compressor when I lived in an apartment years ago that rusted out. I just kept running self tapping roofing screws into the holes every time another one blew through. You could could get real creative if the screws won't hold. Fiberglass reinforced with steel banding would hold for awhile.

what I use is a old propane tank. you can pick one out for less than the price of scrap. and you could over size the tank if you are not scared of cooking the compressor head.
