So the engine sitting 2" lower is for drive line geometry?
So do i cut the cross member out and make a new one or
fab somethin to the old one? It seems like it would be easier to make a new one out of square tubing, rather than chop up the old one.
What are your thoughts Dustin??

I make a new one. The last one I did I used 1/4" wall 4" square tubing to build the crossmember from. It looked good, but not the factory look I try to shoot for. The next one I do (my 70 hopefully) I'm going to look into building the crossmember from laser cut and broken plate instead of tubing.
Once you get the engine in there you'll see why it will sit where it does. It does sit there for drivetrain geometry, the crank centerline is the same for every engine/tranny you install, but the other reason is that is the only place it will fit. If you raise the engine the head will hit the firewall, the fan will be into the radiator, the transmission top will be above the floorpan. If you lower the engine the front diff will hit the oil pan under full suspension compression. That sucker is very tall and very long.

Hmm I guess I will be looking else where. I am hoping to hear back from the guy with 78 f-250. I am guessing it has the np205 and d44 hp in it. I am hoping to get the whole truck for about $500 to $600.00.
Will the d44 hp be strong enough for the weight of the cummins?
I got me a free engine lift and stand plus a parts cleaner. The guy owned a mechanic shop and retired. So he is cleaning out a storage unit. I will find out in a week if he has more free stuff for me. He has a nice welder I told him I wanted. man I hope he gives it to me.!!

The 78 F-250 would have the 205 in it you need.
The Dana 44 was never intended to support that much weight, but it will. Balljoints and wheel bearings probably won't last as long as they should, but they are easy enough to replace.
