Soda blasting is the way to go. It removes all contaminants without affecting the substrate. It therefore does not damage glass, chrome, or even gel coat on fiberglass. They even become polished. It also removes the ion on steel making it less prone to immediate rusting.
The impact of sand blasting particles on the surface layer explodes and pulverizes the surface material into space.
The impact of the soda atom forces ions into the surface material and the particle actually just falls off. No damage done to the substrate.
The soda (the same soda used in the [censored]) is water soluble and rinses off with water not affecting health or environment.
Sand blasting process pounds the silica into voids, such as cracks, and conceals them making a failure possible.
The cost was rather high for my truck because the truck was totally disassembled from the frame. The soda blaster machine used is top of the line industrial quality.
There is a portable soda blasting machine that I want to get that retails around $2500. I can use it for all stripping projects and I know we all have stripping projects that we won't do. This makes all stripping projects possible with the lease amount of effort and the best possible outcome. Like Keith said, it depends on the prep.
