87 Crown Vic drivetrain swap.
I am putting engine/trans out of a 87 vicky into my 72 F-100. The engine runs great and the trans shifted fine in the car. I want fuel injection for the mileage and easy starting. I have downloaded the 5.0 engine swap guide and reviewed it. I have some questions still. Can anyone send me some links, or have answers?
The truck has a 289 with a truck c-4 in it now. The gears are 3.00 running 235-75r-15 tires.
The Victoria has a stock 5.0 and a AOD.
I also have a 89 E-350 with a thrown rod. 351w with a C-6
1. I have a AOD from the vicky and need to know what to do about the driveshaft. Mine is the 2 piece. I also have a 89 Ford E-350 C-6 I could use. Which tranny would work out better? What about the lines? The AODs look different.
2. Speedo cable? The aod has a sensor attatched, will this work on the c-6? I am using the EFI.
3. I am using the ford van fuel tank, I plan to mount it under the bed where the spare was. That way I don't need a frame nounted pump. What about the fuel gauge?
4. Whats a good steering column swap? What fits good? Wiring isn't a problem I can do that part.

sorry i cant answer all of those, but i know a C4 and an AOD are the same lenght, i know this because i have an AOD in my 90 and the driveshaft in it i got from an truck with a C4. im sure you could even go with a once piece driveshaft by doing this as well.

I can help with some of it.The AOD isn't a real strong trans. If you plan to haul or tow I'd strongly recommend using the C6.The sensor in the AOD is for the speedometer only.Your cable will hook up to a C6.
Your driveshaft should have a bolt on yoke with the C4.Both the AOD and 89 C6 trannys will have a slip yoke. Most likely you will need to have the front section of the driveshaft shortened and the matching slip yoke installed.
Dent side columns are a fairly easy swap.Read Keith's tech paper on this one.
I can't help on the fuel gauge but please post some pics of the tank swap.

Ok, I see now the C6 is the obvious choice. Since I will be towing my demo cars. It looks like the driveshaft out of the van may work. I may have to change yokes on my 9" that's in the truck. Which flywheel should I use? I think the plate from the 351 will work but will the flywheel?
The 289 is going in the crown vicky later on, I am gonna smash it in the county fair. Kill some chevrolets!
Thanks for helping me out on this guys. I will take some photos when I get started on the project.

The flexplate ( flywheel ) from the 5.0 will bolt to the C6.So will the spacer plate.

The sensor on the AOD is not for the speedo. It's called the VSS sensor and senses the vehicle speed for the EEC. You need it for the EEC to work correctly, but it will work fine without one, it will just always have codes.

Thanks guys, I looked and the van with the C6 has a VSS on it. Good to know that the 5.0 flexplate and spacer will work. Looks like I'm using the C6. The bigger radiator from the van looks like it will fit too.
Here is the truck.

Here is the engine that's in it now. 1967 289 out of a Cougar, it runs great but not powerful. I'm gonna put it in the Vicky later on for the derby.

Re: 87 Crown Vic drivetrain swap.
I have the engine and trans installed. I decided to use the C-6 out of the box van, and the drive shaft (no cutting) from the 89 E350 van. Everything fit great but I had to separate the engine and trans to get the c-6 in. Mine had a c-4 so the floor hump wasn't as tall. I sold my spooled rear end and have another one I plan on building. I bought a new yoke already for the bigger u-joints. I am going with 3:73 and some sort of locker unit. Maybe from a Lincoln or a another truck.
I have some shorty mustang headers that I plan on using. Any suggestions on a H or X pipe? I need one with O2 sensor holes. I plan to run single inlet mufflers with dual outlets before the rear wheels like a Lightning, only both sides.
