3 spd with p/s?

Post by mk »

When's the last time you guys saw one of these columns? I don't recall much being said about them but I found the first one I'd ever seen on the weekend in a 71 F100 at the wreckers. Didn't have time enough left to scoop it after grabbing a perfect black dash pad from a nearby 69 Farm and Ranch Special. If I'd had a razor blade, I would have scraped the F/R decals off too.
Gonna have to think of an excuse to get away from work for an afternoon as that there 71 also had a nice rad support... :D

My '68 parts truck has one, but it's the only other one I've seen....and I'm not entirely sure it's factory, as there are lots of modifications done by a previous owner. They're definitely rare, and worth snagging.

Of course, I'm assuming that the column is hooked to a Saginaw box and not a Bendix-type, right?

Yessir, she had that big Ford box. I thought it might be a 'customized' setup at first but the dash bracket looks original and it doesn't look cut anywhere. This might almost be worth changing my 68 back to original as it was originally a 390 3spd...

Oh my god, oh my god. Snag it and let me know what you want for it. I have a sag box sitting in my shed just waiting for a 3 sp. ( on the column ) column. Can you really get it? Oh man, christmas might just come a little early. If you can get and want to get rid of it grab what ever bracketry I would need.

Put me in line for one of those columns too!!. Let us see some pictures.
A perfect dash pad, a Farm and Ranch special AND a 3 speed P/S truck all in one junk yard? WOW

Well, I'd like to think so anyways, but... This wrecker's always attracted rare stuff. The only original F series accessory rad over flow jugs I've ever seen were on trucks there. Scooped two of them over the last few years. They had a D1TE or Z part number as I recall. Hoping to get back there tomorrow. With planting in full swing here and a parts job at John
Deere filling my time, I just couldn't get away this week. I'll try to get some shots I can post when I do get there. Keeping my fingers crossed as a week is a long time at the wreckers...

Finally got over to grab that column yesterday. As I was checking it out when I got home I discovered that it was indeed a modified column and not original. :( What he did was grab the shaft from a p/s column and then cut the outer column back to make it fit. It wasn't a real professional job as he had removed the collar from the bottom of the shaft and didn't have a bearing installed at the bottom. Here's a couple of pics I took of the column.

So the elusive factory 3 speed P/S column is still uncaptured. Kind of like a bigfoot, we keep hearing about them but nobody has actually seen one.
