bump trailer new pics

Hey guys the bump trailer is nearly complete..

Still have a couple of things to do...
1. mount the tire carrier
(bought an in bed carrier that I'm gonna mount on the front of the bed)
2. get the right size tool box to mount on the tongue
3. paint it
4. get it inspected

Does anyone know if there is a way to convert the disconnected hydraulic brakes into electric brakes?
It would be real nice to have some assisted braking, but I really don't wanna spend and arm and leg to do it.

not electric, but I dunno of a way to convert the original axle.

Hey Mike...

That's pretty slick...

I was playing with the idea of mounting a standard MC, and finding something that could actuate the plunger rod when I stepped on the pedal.
I cant figure out how the old school ones worked at all...
I pulled one from the '71 that had had regular hydraulic brake line connected to it...
I'm not sure how that worked the trailer brakes, any ideas?

that tool box looks good. most seem to go with the normal inbed tool box.

Hey RJ...

Actuallly that's the box that goes back in my '68 CS when the camper isn't on it.
I am gonna mount the spare on the front of the box so there won't be as much room for a big box like that.
I am thinkin' about using one of the diamond plate or black boxes like mine that would fit inside the back of a ranger (new style).
The big one sticks way out from the frame where it bends in so there isn't isn't any support.
That isn't really a problem with a nearly empty box like the one sittin' there now.

Putting the tool box on the frame is a good idea. That way, you can utilize the bedspace.
I wouldn't mind having one of those traliers. I just don't have the equipment to make it.

hey kaptn, i know there is a kit or used to be anyway that used the braking force of the tow vehicle to push a plunger inside the tounge that actuated the brakes. a friend of mine had an old pull behind camper with this type of setup.

I didn't have the equipment to do it either...
I hired a retired friend from the church to do the cutting and welding for me. I filled his oxy and acetaline tanks and paid him $50 for his help.
It was well worth it to me...
I really didn't wanna have ta scrap it, as far as I had come.
I had 3 other guys say they would do it for $100, they all bailed on me.
My friend Bob came through, though it did cost me $50 bucks more than I had budgeted.
Yeah, with the tool box on the tongue, I can still put a topper on it...
eventually, I'd like to put a '68 FLH 1200 in the back....

I'd like to bob one a little more than this one but the same year and model.
I'd paint it the same my '68 CS (when it's done)
Light blue body, white top with a red splash coming from the front.. similiar to flames but real liquid looking...
