Title gifs eating up cpu?

Post by Ripsnorter »

I've noticed ever since I first joined here that for some reason this site causes Opera to use more CPU than it should. I hadnt paid much attention to it prior to now, but I finally checked it out in task manager and for some reason Opera uses every bit of CPU power it can grab. I finally traced it down to the title .gifs that rotate at the top left corner of the page. Once I blocked the gifs from loading the browser load goes back to normal.

Anyone else have a problem like this? I dont know if its only Opera or other browsers as well. Its not a problem of loading the .gifs either, CPU usage stays constant as long as the page is open.

I spose I should have mentioned that I'm on Opera 9.22

It does not seem to have any problems in IE either. I believe theres a 9.23 out for opera, I'll try the update and see if it helps.

I use Firefox, Safari and Camino on an Apple and haven't noticed this happening. I used to use Opera a few years back on Windows machines and remember it as lean and fast.

Actually, now that you mention it.

Yes, the CPU usage does spike when loading the GIF's.
