Hey Gt,
Looks good , thanks for the update. But I couldn't help noticing the back ground in all your pictures .I've discovered your disadvantage, you've got way to much room and space in your shop there , I think if you clutter it up a little and throw some more stuff in there , it'll go much smoother.

his jumps up because of how the suspension is. crossmember bolts below the rails, and sets the a arm rather low. just how the stock frame is, it wont bother the cab.
wasn't asking you but since you know everything i think the rest of us can just let you tell us everything. because you have done how many fronts?
oh ya zero.
i am just going to delete my response as it would make me look as bad as some others.
the truck looks dope, im positive things will come together for you. half way there and making time for details, love the frame. hope you are happy with it when your done!
I have been doing some photo comparisons. Being one who has done zero fronts as well ,these are just observations . I compared the recent pics of your installed front clip to the pics in the photobucket posted on page 2 of this thread. The installation of the clip in the photobucket performed by some one who has done numerous fronts. I would be willing to bet if you put these two frames (stripped ) side by side your are with in a 1/4" or less. Although the installation of the clip in the photobucket were done with the cab and power train literally undisturbed ,your starting points appear to be identical. You've got a little more work ahead of you getting the engine height and cab mounts properly located but GT your on the right track.
Having stood next to the truck in the photobucket sitting on the ground , with the axle over performed on the rear as well, the "jump" in the cab mount area is what makes these "x" brand front clips so desirable for the low stance I feel your looking for with little or no modifications to the "x" brand front suspension.

whats up with cobra's truck? no new pics and hasn't post in awhile. i am guessing his truck is in texas so he hasn't worked on it. from how is motor built i am pretty sure he's not driving it to where he lives.
wt4 thanks for the input. Actually from what I could tell, cant tell much from pictures, but it looks like chris started half way up the rise in the frame. The only difference being my frame may show under the front of the cab, like brand X does. I hope I didnt mess up but I will make due. As for the cab mounts the will be bolted on the sides wherever they fit. I will cut the top lip off the frame mount if needed to move it down or up.
I plan to set the bed on the frame with a couple bolts and then build forward lining everything else up from the front bed wall. Once the cab to bed gap is even, I will put the front clip on, using the front of the cab to hang it on for proper alignement.
that is looking good GT.
What are your plans with this setup? Do you want to put the truck on the ground with air bags or are you going with this suspension cause you have more parts options.
Good work!
as for ride quality for air ride.....its all in how you set it up. I have ridden in a couple bagged trucks that I would rather ride on a early 1800's wooden wheel wagon. That being said, I have ridden in some thats like a moving mattress. You could fall asleep it's so smooth. The rear setup (in mine, and a lot of others opinions....and facts) is to run a forward 4 link. Triagulated. Run the bags on the lower bars and top mount on the frame. Of course getting all your instant center and all that crap is going to play a big roll, so read up on that as well. From the things I have read (catered to bagged rides) is to shoot for the front bumper when messing with you instant center. I will get you an article a very good and qualified suspension guy on another forum I frequent wrote up.
as for the c-notch, you COULD build it from 3x3 tubing, 3/16 inch plate, or buy a kit for the 8 piece setups that are readily available. For the sake of an easy install.....I would make one out of tubing.
If you do bag the front all you need is 2 plates with the holes to mount your bag to the top where the coil spring goes. Here is a drawing of one.
I can get you the specs if you need them, the plate should be made out of 1/4 material.
That, and plate the lower to mount the bag. just throw some tirangular gussets on top of the piece marz just drew up and your good to go. of course, you have to have it layed out, bag collapsed, and then mark everything. That way you get maximum lift outta the bag.
