Factory Air in cab heater hose 71'

Post by frisky »

does anyone still make the molded heater hoses that got from the factory Air box in the cab thru the firewall?

Any suggestions for a work around if they are still not made?

thanks.

Hmmm...I'm not sure I know what hoses you're referring to. :? The only molded hoses that I'm aware of on these truck are the radiator hoses. The heater hoses that go from the engine to the heater box inside the cab aren't molded...that hose is sold by the foot at any parts store.

these are two hoses, that run from the core tubes and make a 90d turn to go thru the firewall, where they meet the regular engine compartment heater hose (regular by the foot roll stock)

These molded hoses are about a foot long, have a wiggle or two in them and then the 90 turn, regular hose would not make the turn thru the firewall.

If what I am reading is correct. There was at one time available from Ford
a couple of preformed hoses---described in catalog as follows

F100/350--with integral a/c preformed 5/8 I.D. X 46.00" long
C8TZ.18472.A
and
F100/350--with integral a/c preformed 5/8 I.D. X 25.50" long
C8TZ.18472.B
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I am pretty sure this is what your asking about. By the length they must have went all the way to the engine originally.
these have long been discontinued from Ford but maybe somebody like NAPA etc.. can cross the numbers for you?

Yes, thats it!

The hoses when I got the truck, where spliced to regular heater hose at the engine side of the firewall using two 3" lengths of some steel tube and 4 hose clamps.

The two ideas I have had were to use some wire wound hose like used in aircraft, or to solder some soft copper tube onto the heater core and bring that thru the firewall.

Wow.

I don't think I'd solder that long of a tube to the heater core, as it would probably fatige from vibration, but if you are handy with a pipe bender I don't see why you could not form a couple of copper lines and attache them with short rubber hose tot he heater core.

I would get the hoses out and take them into a few larger dealerships. Ford, Chevy anybody with a large inventory. There can be numerious hoses, tubes etc.. a guy can make work or get by with. Its worth a try just hope you find someone that is willing to take a few extra minutes to help.
