Back in November, I pulled the Windsor from my '69 SWB Ranger and replaced the main and rod brgs. I swapped the alum Ford motorsport valve covers that I had on it with black FMS vc's. While the engine was out, I went ahead and repainted the engine bay. I had it painted flat black to start with but I didn't like the drab look of the flat black. I repainted it gloss black and it looks 100% better. I am also replacing the C6 with with a smaller C4 to get more hp to the rear wheels for better E/T's and hopfully faster mph speeds. This past Friday I got the 351W bolted to the C4 and the 351w is now resting back at home in the newly repainted engine bay. I ordered a new light weight aluminum driveshaft and it should be here in a week or so. Then it will be time to fire the Windsor up and get it re-tuned for some test passes down the 1/8th mile to see how well the new C4 holds up to the 425hp Windsor.
My best E/T with the C6 was 8.55 @ 85.024 mph. With the new C4, I hope to lower my E/T to 8.4's or 8.3's. I'll post my new E/T's once I go to the strip in a few weeks.
What gears and what type of locker are you running? I've got a 71 F100 SWB that has a mild 460 build. About 380hp and 500 ft-lbs of torque in front of a wide ratio C6 w/ 2400 RPM stall converter. The rear is a stock 9" w/ open 3.00 gears.
Wow. I can't imagine 4.11 gears so no overdrive. I would spend the money on a Lentech AOD or go to broaderperformance.com and get Jay to build you one. The most gear I would ever go w/ on my C6 would be 3.5. I do have a wide ratio C6 though, so first and second is lower than yours. Third is still 1:1.
The 4.11 is way too high for everyday use, unless the truck is strictly used as a farm truck. At 55 mph I am turning 3000 rpms and at 70 it is sreaming at 4000 rpms. I don't drive the truck on the street anymore, its strictly a dragstrip toy.
