Decent brakes for a F100 4x4
Hi, I trying to build a poor man's camper special out of 1972 F100 4x4, 360v8, 435, model 21. The truck has a nine inch rear axle and Dana 44 up front. I pulled a Dana 60 from a u-pull yard, and while it has 12 inch drums the shoes look a little skinny to me. If I run the stock rear brakes on the 1970 F250 D60 axle and do the F150 disc brake upgrade up front, would this give enough brakes for a 10ft camper? Any info would greatly appreciated. Thanks! ![Hmmm :hmm:](./images/smilies/icon_hm.gif)

That's basically how virtually ALL the '70s and '80s trucks were equipped. Since a majority of your stopping power is going to be with the front brakes anyway, it'll work just fine. It's definitely a step up from four-wheel drums! Unless you plan on doing a LOT of long downhill driving, I doubt you could justify the expense of adding rear discs.

Alright, you guys convinced me, do discs up front and drums in back. It's just I seen this cool kit that let you put 1975 Chevy 3/4 ton 4x4 front discs on a Dana 60, I went
, but then I looked at my wallet and went
Oh well. I got a thing about brakes after the time I hauled an unit of prestologs down the Lewiston grade in my 1961 Willy's 4x4 pickup. Those 11x2 brakes just were not enough! Thanks again guys and take 'er easy.![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

my 72 drums stop quite well, and have a good feel without the power booster. I know when they are about to lock up and while they are more complex than disks, I cant warrent the costs or effort at this time.
