"Poor Man's 427" build-up series posted...w/pics
Many of you might not be a regular over at the FordFE.com forums, but a member there has been slowly working on building a 427 c.i.d. using an FT 330 block as a starting point. He's been posting his updates there on the forums along with a lot of great pictures, but the pictures don't last long over there before they get deleted. He really needed a place to archive the build-up series, since it's generated tons of interest. So a while back I offered to host his build-up here at FORDification. I got most of it posted, but there were several installments that were missing, and some didn't have the pictures.
So I've been slowly working a little here and a little there to get the pages put together and complete. I finally finished that up tonight (since everybody else is sleeping right now...while dreams of sugarplums dance in their heads).
Anyway, it's definitely a very interesting article so far. He's definitely got a ways to go yet, but he's done a fantastic job so far of documenting a lot of little details....and I highly encourage everyone to spend some time there checking it out. Here's the link:

For future reference, this series is linked to from the Site Index and the Tech & Tutorials pages.

Well, not everyone's asleep. Question; isn't the 330 FT a low compression industrial engine with a forged steel crank? Didn't know they were worth anything?

Man I gotta watch that, cause I happen to have a running 330 FT engine right now.
I wonder what the machine work would cost......

That would cost about $1200-$1500 to have the block all done up! D3 or D4 blocks are the best to use for something like this.

As they are, they are nothing but a low compression truck engine, made to get big trucks moving.xxxtina63 wrote:Well, not everyone's asleep. Question; isn't the 330 FT a low compression industrial engine with a forged steel crank? Didn't know they were worth anything?
He had the block sleeved, so in reality you could use most any FE block to do the same thing.

I'm anxious to see how this comes out. I wonder if there is a better block to use to do this.
Even though I'd probably be just as happy with building my 390 in to a 410 or 428 or something.

Don't know the power that it makes but we think that we might be in the 600 HP range! We will see once we get the car set-up and post our best time at the track. Then that should tell ya then LOL.Vinniesempire wrote:What power did it make???
