Side or top terminal?

Post by Fake Name »

I'll be replacing both batteries and all cables, and have the option to choose anything I'd like. So:

Would you use top or side terminal batteries?

Side terminals seem awfully Chevy to me, but they never seem to have the corrosion issues of a top terminal battery. Yes, they are harder to jumpstart, but not a big deal.

What do you think?

My preference is top terminals because of the jump issue. If you spray on some battery terminal protection spray or vaseline or whatever, they won't corrode.

i like top terminals. use terminal spray to keep the corrosion off. side terminals corrode too. and they are harder to work on.

optima redtops model 34/78 i think, has top and side terminals, that way you can run the truck off of the top terminals and acessories of the side terminals- winch, lights, amp, sub, ect. I plan on installing a winch with a front and rear mount so i went with the optima. :2cents: :2cents:

All true, but I don't want a whole lot of connection points on the battery- I'd like to be able to remove the cable and have the truck off-power. To me, multiple connections means more fire risk.

Watch out running heavy acessories on the side terminals like a winch or big amps. The terminals melt!
