Wanted to say Hello

Post by Slowly Sinking »

Well hello everyone... Just wanted to introduce myself, my name is William, I have been in the military for over 8 years, and deployed to Bosnia, and Iraq 2 times. I am actually writing this from Iraq, I am currently 11 months into my second tour...

Now to the heart of things... I just bought a 1971 Ford F-100 4x4 with a 390 in it. The truck was my dad's, he bought it in Colorado in 92. We moved to KY in 93, where the change of climate, really took its tole on the body. In 92, the truck got a custom paint job, 3 inch suspension lift, and a lot of extra's as far as state of the art stereo (for the time) custom interior...

Well since moving to KY things had been a little harder for my dad, and was never really able to get the body work done on the truck. The motor has been started once a month, for the last 8 years, and driven at least every other month.

Being I have always owned Fords, I could never get one that matched up to what as a kid I thought was the ultimate truck. Now that I have the actual truck that I thought was the ultimate truck, I am going to be asking you all for a lot of help, but I will save those questions for the proper area on the forum.

Mechanically, the truck is sound. Starts up on the first hit, it will be getting a a complete tune up, and getting a twice over on breaks, hoses, and belts and such. My questions are going to come on the area I am lacking body work...

Anyhow I feel kind of long winded, so I will end this now with just saying hello.

Sounds like you have a nice rig in your possession and you have a bond to it. You've found a good place to hang out. :wel: to the group. We'll be watching for pics when you get a chance. :D

Welcome William. I am also in the Sandbox, but not the military. From reading about your truck, I think it can be saved. Doing a cab swap would probably save you some time and money. I also have a 67 F100 at home that has gone too far to really be saved so I know what you are looking at. Good luck with your truck and come here for all the support and encouragement you need. Be safe and hurry back. :)

Welcome aboard!
We had a member from KY that was trying to sell a cab, but I can't think who it was. Anyone recall him?

William,

Welcome and enjoy. This here is the best place on the WWW for 67-72 Ford truck information. I agree with truckcrazy on the cab swap.

I know what you mean about the perfect truck...in my mind the are 5 prerequisistes;
1. 1969 Model
2. SWB
3. 390 ci V8
4. 4 Speed transmission
5. 4WD

I had them all til I had to come to Germnay...but that's an old story.
