Pitman arm drag link castle nut torque specs
Does anyone know torque specs for pitman arm to drag link castle nut? I have a 1972 ford f-250. I just retro fitted 1975 power steering parts on my 72. Works great but i need those specs for the castle nut.

Re: Pitman arm drag link castle nut torque specs
I just went through the same thing on my 71 Bronco. I found the spec for the tie rod as well as the drag link to tie rod. The spec is 40 lb./ft. so that is what I used for the drag link to pitman arm.

Re: Pitman arm drag link castle nut torque specs
I dug out the old Chilton's book out of my truck and found the specs for the F250 steering links. Still could not find the spec for the drag kink to pitman arm but for the F250 the torque spec for the tie rod to spindle nuts is 50 - 70 lb./ft.. That's the spec I would use. 50 lb./ft. then tighten till you can get the cotter pin through the nut. I've done mine a couple of times but it's been a long time, that's why I keep the book in the truck.

40 sounds way low. I'd venture more like 65 ft.lbs.

You're right . The Chilton's I have says 50 - 70, but I just pulled up a page scanned from the factory service manual and that says 60 - 75 for the F 250. The 40 lb./ft. was for the Bronco drag link, that's why I re-posted the other numbers even though they were still a bit low. The Ford service manual is the only place I found that gave specific numbers for the drag link studs.Busboy wrote:40 sounds way low. I'd venture more like 65 ft.lbs.

Yeah, that's why I like having the factory shop manuals for these old turds.
