Unfortunately: Locks keep honest people honest. That's about the size of it.

I had a hood lock on my 75 F100 w/351 2v Cleveland, built up real sweet (Dyno'd 272 HP @ 3500 RPM's at the rear wheel!). Well some F'n Dirt Bag went in through the undercarriage and stole my Battery, oil cooler,tranny cooler Dual oil filter set upand a few other personal items. All without opening the hood. He didn't need to touch the hood lock.
That was a big Shiite sandwich that I had to eat!
I really do hate to eat those too!!!

disable the pull latch,And use a screwdriver to trip the latch when you need to open.

i thought about that but went with a chain. i bolted it to hood with one of the latch bolts.
