For my '67 f100..

I see kits online to totally replace the front drums with discs and add brake booster. Has anyone bought one of these kits and what was your experience like? Manufacturers that have high quality parts?
I see methods to re-use parts from other trucks but i'd like the piece of mind of having brand new (front) brakes.
Any advice you can give me before pulling the trigger? any other front end work I should do concurrent with having that area dismantled?
Appreciate the advice in advance,
carb
Suggestions for disc brake kits?

Re: Suggestions for disc brake kits?
As far as the kits go, no experience. From the descriptions, it sounds like the MP Brakes kit is more complete (the Summit kits don't mention a combination/proportioning valve, and one of the Summit kits doesn't show an MC (the other one does), so you might have to add to these kits).
On my F250, I did the conversion, and the only old parts I used were the caliper brackets and the dust shields. Everything else was new/remanufactured. The biggest problem I had was that '67 didn't have disc brakes as an option, and the pedals/brackets are different from other years, so I used a '67 booster with everything else for a '68.
If you opt for old stuff, sargentrs gives some pointers on this thread:

From what he said, it sounds like the swap for an F250 is easier than for an F100.

Re: Suggestions for disc brake kits?
I installed the front disc brake suspension from a '77 F100 under my '69 F100. I only reused the '77 I-beams, spindles, radius arms and rotor dust shields. I replaced the I-beam and radius arm bushings, kingpin/kingpin bushings, rotors, wheel bearings/seals, brake pads and brake hoses,
steering linkage, tie rods and new shocks and new Moog CC808 progressive rate front coils. The calipers were turned in as cores for newly rebuilt calipers.
The suspension and brake components are all Ford/Ford replacement parts and are exactly designed to work on a Bumpside, just like they did on the Dentside. Getting replacement parts is kept simple because you're not having to get various parts from a multitude of different vehicle lines, like the aftermarket add-on setups.
Putting an aftermarket setup on I-beams with worn out bushings, worn kingpins and worn radius arm bushings doesn't give you a great advantage. The brakes will only work as good as the foundation they're bolted to. If you're going to have to dismantle your existing drum brake suspenion to replace these parts before putting the discs on anyway, it just seems better (to me) to do the Dentside disc/suspension swap, keep it simple and to get Ford-engineered parts that are a direct fit.

Re: Suggestions for disc brake kits?
Seriously, all you need to find is a set of '73-'74 F100 disc brake spindles. Everything else that's in that kit can be bought at your local parts store, except for the dust shields, for much less. At the most, I have under $400 in my front disc set up and that includes having the spindles machined and new king pin bushings installed.

Re: Suggestions for disc brake kits?
If you ever had the notion to install a 1-1/8" factory front swaybar (that was optional on the '75-'79 F100s-F350s), the '67-'72 and the '73/'74 radius arms will NOT be configured to accept this bolt-on assembly. --although, '74 radius arms can be modified to work but, it's simpler if you have the '75-'79 radius arms to begin with. Bumpside/'73 radius arms don't have any material sticking out off the front ends to be able to install the swaybar endlink brackets correctly.
If you have the disc brake front suspension from a '75-'79 F100 or a '75-'79 F150, the radius arms are configured to use this factory front swaybar.
I have a 1-1/8" front swaybar from a '78 F250 Camper Special on the '77 F100 disc brake front suspension on my '69 F100, as well as a 1-1/8" rear swaybar on my truck from a '79 Bronco.
