Power drum to power disk brake conversion kit.

Post by det45 »

Hello all, can anyone direct me to a website and/or dealer to purchase a power disk brake conversion kit? Just the front brakes is all I want to convert. What exactly will I need to do this, I know I will need the disks, calipers, hubs, and hardware. Will I also need to change the master cylinder and the existing power brake booster? My 1970 F100 currently has power drum brakes. Thank you........det45

Master Power Brakes has a kit.

... or find a 73-79 donor for less than half of the cost.

MC has to be changed. The booster can be retained.

Easiest is to find a '73-'74 donor truck and just get the spindles and dust shields. The king pins are the same so it's a direct swap. Pull your drum brake spindles, install the disc brake spindles and you're done. That's what I did. Everything else is available at your local parts store except the prop valve and there are a large selection available online from a number of manufacturers. Or you can get the one from your donor truck and hopefully it'll be good. You'll also need a set of brake booster brackets so grab those too, or you can get those online from Flashback F100's.

What about if we are dealing with a 69 camper special. One thing I would like to know is when the lug stud changed to a larger diameter. What is the stud size on the 68, 5/8? I would want my new 8 lug front to match the oem rear.
