diesel bumpside?

Post by tazzman68 »

Hey all, saw a 68' shortbox stepside today on the way home from work. I was at a local car lot.....odd thing about it, had a big sign on the windshield that said "DIESEL" soooo, wazzup? Is this possible? I think I may stop in there this weekend if it is still there.

That is awesome, How much is it? If it is a diesel someone just swapped one in.
1968 F100 Took the running 390 out, and installed a Built 300 with AOD.

:yt: They didn't put a diesel in a pickup back then.

Maybe it's still a gas burner, but has so many rattles and knocks the seller's looking for a sucker. :$$: :$$: :$$:

I've heard they put 3208 Cats in some F350's in the early 70's. Although I dream of such a swap, mine includes a DT466 from an IH truck

Ok, went and took a look at this thing yesterday. It is a 68' stepside F100. It has some monstrosity of a turbo charged 4cyl diesel in it. It also has some kind of a 2 shifter manual trans. My brother the trucker says it is a brownie box? Anyways, the truck body is fairly clean, but the motor and such are very scabbed in. I didnt even ask to hear it run. (if it even does) If you look closely at the pics, you'll see the can of starting fluid they keep under the hood. And one last thing, these guys want $2,500 for it.

I really have no idea what kind of motor that is. It wasnt real well marked. Looked like a real beast though.
