Neutral saftey switch & backup lights

Post by indy358 »

I am worried about installing a neutral saftey switch because the stem coming out of the steering colum is gone. Is this a replaceable item or do I have to buy a new steering colum to get the backup lights working?

Go here: http://www.dennis-carpenter.com/pdf/67-72_truck.pdf

It's on page 22 and is called a "A/T Neutral Safety Switch Selector Control Pin." It's $18 in this catalog but I think I bought one from the dealer for around $6 about 5 years ago.

Thanks,
I found it through Carpenter. The Ford dealer still had the parts listed but it was $45

What was it you needed exactly, just the selector pin or did you need the switch also? Because I think them switches are pricey.

I recently had the same problem, and friend of mine was knowledgable enough to know what years to find them in as well, so he saved me moola.

Thanks for the info on the broken post, I have the same problem. I got my neutral safety switch from autozone for either 29 or 39 dollars. Check autozone, advance if the other guys are too pricey.

Keep us posted what issues/problems you run into replacing that post. I'd love to avoid any headaches from someone else's experiences.

Thanks,
