Condensors on coil and voltage regulator?

Post by 390Nut »

Just curious as to why I have these in my truck. Never though much about it before, but for some reason it dawned on me (looking at the `74 sort of sparked my curiosity) that I've not seen other trucks/cars from this area with these.

I've got one condensor on the coil mounting bracket, with the wire going to the switch side of the coil, and I have one on the voltage regulator, that goes to the heavy yellow wire, which goes to the battery terminal on the starter relay.

Anyone have any clues as to what these do, and if they are necessary?

Oh, and another thing, I have no wire on the regulator for the charge indicator ("light" according to the manual) but my gauge seems to work and shows the battery being charged or discharged. Where would that be drawn from, any ideas?

That's part of the noise suppression for the radio. Anything that can generate RF noise has a cap. (or a choke) on it.

The "I" post on the regulator is only used for the idiot light. The ammeter uses a different circuit for the charge/discharge indication.

Clusters that came equipped with charge gauges did not come with charge indicators, and vise versa.

theres a shunt on the passenger side. This triggers the guage.
