I wish I had room for a bandsaw. Right now I don't have a garage or a shop so space is limited. I've got an old single wide trailer that I'm storing Xmas decorations, my tools and all the parts from my truck in. The truck is stripped down to the frame right now, so I can barely walk through the trailer. :( a band saw is definitely on the wish list for when I build my shop, but for now a chop saw will have to do.

I'm sure the dewalt will do fine. I was eluding to a decent bandsaw costing less than $180, but it's not as portable so there you go.

My dad had two band saws. One was a large multi speed honeywell I believe. He got it from an school that was shutting down it's shop class. The smaller one that he had for years, he had a small gear reduction motor rigged up to it for cutting metal. these were both vertical band saws. I'm assuming you're talking about a small vertical band saw in the under $180 price range. Will these turn slow enough for cutting steel? I know that you can get blades in various width and teeth per inch configurations.

I'm with Dustin on this one, if you are going to buy something get a Porter Cable portaband. Blades are $20 for three at Lowes or HD and will last a long time if taken care of.

The DeWalt isn't a good name anymore, and an abrasive chop saw is just an expensive, messy, very loud way to cut metal crooked.
