Driving the 67 isn't as much fun...

Post by pat67shorty »

As it was when I was 16 with manual steering and brakes. So I pulled this from a '70 at pick a part today. I'm putting a bendix steering gear in for now, but got the steering column for a saginaw conversion when I change to disk brakes. :D

Installed. I've been driving this truck since 1996, and I can say it's like driving a completely different truck now. :D

Keith's info on the bendix is correct. It's longer than the manual box, and I ran out of adjustment for the column.

I'll live with it till I put a saginaw box in and swap the column. It's also close to the headers, but clears.

Looks good. Get the newer dent style disc brakes and you also get a sway bar as a bonus. Then it's a new truck.

So you ran out of adjustment where? Under the dash where the column mounts are next to the rag joint where the clamp is that holds all of the column bearings tight? I would think between the two you could make it fit but have never used that type of gear.
I agree 100% about what was fun years ago. I have had my 71 since I was 15 and am now 47. It was a 302 manual everything with straight drive. It is now power discs, power steering and automatic. lol

I love having manual everything 8), It means that there's less stuff to break on me and that most people wouldn't want to steal it . Maybe when I get older I'll feel the same way and add an option or two ro my truck.... :P . Until then I'll be working on my biceps with my armstrong steering !

Same here, I drove the maverick a couple of times and loved the manual steering and brakes. But that's a small and light car, I hope its easy like that with the truck. Don't get too used to it, because when you get in a car with power everything, you'll be driving like a maniac.
