Man, some of the different stuff that people have used to fix these problems is so out there. Perhaps, some stuff like this would have been in order during the time our bumps were under the care of their PO's.

im guilty of doing the c clamp exhaust thing, but on a volkswagon golf where they have these stupid little pressure springs. i cut them off and stuck on some c clamps, works really good on a little 4 banger.

That is a homemade spark arrester / fuel atomizer under the carb spacer. And yes, you guessed it.... made entirely of wire window screen. Where did all of it go you may ask... who knows? I'm sure I'll find out when I tear the engine down. But, to the P.O.'s credit, it was doubled up and had silicone around the edges for a tight fit.

this is my 71 parts truck.

someone down the line must've swapped 4speeds and the shifter didn't bend right, so they made it bend right:

the front turn signals are "grote" trailer side marker lights mouunted with angle iron:

you can't see it too good in this pic, but that is a new replacement inner fender which was immediately cut up to route ac lines and power steering lines through:

Image

and finally, the whole truck is "painted" with some of that do it yourself bed liner:
