Ordered more supplies

Post by FORDification »

Well, any day now I should be receving a couple packages...one from POR-15 and another from Eastwood. From POR-15 I ordered a couple more quarts of the POR-15, a quart of MarineClean, a gallon of MetalReady, and I decided to try a tube of their POR-Patch, which is basically their POR-15 in a tube...just thicker....for patching pinholes.

From Eastwood I got a quart of the brush-on/spray-on Rust Encapsulator, one aeresol can of the Rust Encapsulator, some of their brushable seam sealer, a tube of their seam sealer (applied with a caulking gun), and some of the 3M flexible strip caulk (that black sticky stuff you seal up around the heater core connections on the firewall).

Depending on how scheduling goes this weekend, I'm really hoping to have the bottom of my cab coated with POR-15 and then topcoated so that I can get it bolted down for the last time. :woohoo:

Hey Keith, sounds like the exciting part is coming. Start seeing the body parts go back on. I second that :woohoo: .

We bought some of the POR-15 in a tube also, thought we might try it on some pin holes in the floor pans. I also plan to buy some of the Eastwood Rust Encapsulator, seeing as we have plenty of rust to go around, I thought we would try it out and see the difference between it and POR-15 ourselves.

Good luck this weekend!

From the POR-15 FAQs:
CAN I PAINT OVER POR-15 WITH OTHER PAINTS?
Absolutely. POR-15 will accept all paints, including lacquer-based paints. POR-15 Tie-Coat Primer is the best prime coat to use before topcoating POR-15. Be sure to read thoroughly our directions and tip sheets regarding topcoating before using POR-15.
Depending on what you're coating with it, you can just get away with not using their primer by spraying on a topcoat once the POR-15 is very tacky. That's actually what I've been doing on all my parts so far.

We've been using the same method Keith has, and so far eveything looks pretty good (rear axle, leaf srings, rear portion of frame).
