Howdy from wyoming! ('70 F-100)
Hey, I was browsing the net looking for an instrument panel for my truck when I found this sight. I was shocked, a whole site devoted to '67 - '72 Ford trucks? Well darn, looks like ill be spending alot of time here!
I bought an old 1970 F100 4x4 l6 4.9L (900,000ish miles ) truck for $600 about a month ago. I started out not knowing a thing about cars. I just needed wheels and didn't have alot of money. I also liked that it was a truck and was 4 wheel drive.
Little did I know that I had an inner passion for working on old trucks! You don't find me on the computer non stop like I used to be, now im outside working on my truck. Its great. Anyway im sure I don't need to ramble on about the joys on working on old trucks here, I think you all have figured that out for yourselfs already.
When I got my truck it was a mess. It didn't run without the carburetor overflowing, and the breaks didn't work. About the only stuff that was in good shape was the engine its self, and the drive train. Sense then i've got it to the point where mechanically its working great. The engine purrs like a kitten now that i've tightened the lifters, and replaced the carburetor. i've done alot of other work on it and its really coming along.
However, there are still a few things I need to fix before its really ready to be driven alot. First of all none of my gauges work. I wont get into details here, but I definitely need to know how hot my engine is when im driving. Also my left break light dosent work when I break. BUT it dose work when my right turn signal is on or when I have my lights pulled out to the first setting. (Headlights still off) Im also having a ton of problems with my automatic choke. Im about ready to rip the dang thing out and convert it to manual. (Especially considering the extreme cold in casper.) Also my front left break keeps hissing at me, and the break pettles (even after bleeding them) still need pumping.
The body is in pretty bad shape... I wont go into alot of detail other then to say the front is pretty warped after it seems the other owner hit a deer or something. The trim is all messed up and its missing the front panels.
Overall im very excited to be the owner of my new ford truck and am looking forward to seeing it change into something great.
