Stock 360 Transmission Question

Post by Ares68F100 »

While pulling in my partially running 68 F100 into my driveway, I noticied that the transmission wasn't always engaging. The motor would rev up a little bit then it would engage and the truck would pull forward, then it would disengage and re-engage once I pulled the revs back up again. I am going to look at the transmission when I pull the motor to replace it early May when my motor is delivered. Any suggestions of what to look for?

Sounds like you are low on tranny fluid.

I assume this is an automatic?

If it is a manual then you have a bad clutch.

I had the same problem with my '68 360 c-6, pretty much a box full of neutrals until you hit about 3000 rpms; the fluid level was almost full.
I'm no big fan of "snake oil", but a transmission shop owner friend said to try a bottle of "TRANS-X" That stuff is amazing!!! in 5 secs. it went to shifting like a fresh tranny. I put a few ounces in my intrepid's noisy power steering and it hasn't made a sound in 2 yrs...AMAZING!
I feel a lot more like I do now than I did when I got here.

i've heard good things about transx- while you've got the motor out a freshen up on the tranny wouldn't hurt - then you're ready to go with new stuff :drive:
