Post by davidtx85 »

I have a 1971 Ford F100. There is a round light to the left of the ignition switch that isnt hooked up and I am trying to figure out what is. Anyone know?

That will be the brake system's warning light. It's hooked up to the brake distribution block (with drum brakes) or the proportioning valve (with disc brakes), to alert you to to problems in your front-to-rear brake bias.

It will only come on if there's a loss of brake pressure in either the front or rear brakeline circuits. If it comes on, then you need to do some troubleshooting to find out where the loss of fluid pressure is, fix it, and then re-center the valve to turn off the warning light.

Read the following thread for instructions on re-centering the valve, if the situation should ever arise.

Also, it should flash on when you are starting the engine. It is off at all other times unless, as Keith mentioned, you have lost pressure in one of the systems.
