Great Job, keep up the good work and you will be done in no time. I wish my truck was as far as yours at this point.

Thanks guys! It feels good to have a truck again :hd: My dad put a different carb on it, and it is running like new. This thing sure has some power. I took her for a drive in the field, and the mud was flying at least 12 ft in the air  Who says you need a 4x4 to have fun :P For now she'll be on the back burner until I can find some good body panels.

Thanks Pete! Big news! I was searching craigslist like usual, and found a 71 f250 about a mile or two from my house, so my dad and I went to check it out. The guy was parting it out, so I bought the box and the passenger side door. :woohoo: The driver's side door was in similar condition to the one I currently have, so i passed it up. The guy said he might be able to find a nice driver's side door for me. The box also has the built in tool box! :hd: Very little rust on the box, should be easy to fix. The passenger door is nearly perfect with only a little bit of surface rust. I should have some pictures of it tomorrow night :D

Now I have a project for summer. Only a few more days of school!

Picture Time!!!!! :D
I got the bed and door last night. We figured that the easiest way to get the bed was to bring the tuck to the guys house. We hooked a tow-bar up to the Suburban (If anyone asks, my Ford was pushing that chevy with a tow-bar  ) to get it there. With 4 guys the bed was real easy to lift onto my truck. Swapped even for the rims and tires off his truck. Looks like a completely different truck now!

All I need now is a radiator support and fenders. I'm going to buy the fenders new, and most likely use a dentside radiator support. Now I can do body work over the summer. The big trucker mirrors will go back on, and I'll mount the marker lights on the roof, and I plan on putting dual antennas off of each mirror. I'm not going to put the trim back on the truck. From what I see all it does is cause rust, and that is the last thing that I need. I can't wait until the truck is one color again, the different colors is kind of bugging me. I guess it's motivation to get the body work done. :D It feels good to finally have a truck again. :woohoo:

Thanks popeyes!

Over the weekend I got all of the trim off of the truck. I never want to have to deal with removing trim again! Took forever to get the few nuts off, and you have to be more than triple jointed to reach the ones at the front of the bump! :cuss: And then there was the rivets which would only spin when I tried to drill them. One side drilled fine but the other didn't. All in all the job got done, and I'm one step closer to being done. I need to get another roll of welding wire before I can start filling all the holes.

Here are the main problems with the box. They should be easy to fix.

Only two and a half days left of school, so I should have more regular updates on the truck. :D

Hey guys, I spent most of yesterday and Sunday filling trim holes and replacing the area of the bedside that got tore up on the bottom and I can say I never want to do that again! I think that the worst part was all of the grinding. :pout: It's baby steps but I'm getting closer to being done every day. I'll post pictures of the recent progress later.

Looking back here is a picture of where I was at about one year ago when I just started to tear her down. Definitely came a long way since then!

And a little later in the year...

and now...

I want to thank everyone for the motivation that got me this far! :fr:

good work. Are you running 16.5" rims? If so where did you get the tires?

Thanks

The rims are 16". I made sure of that. The tires that are on them still have a good deal of tread on them, so they should last awhile. If they were 16.5" I have no idea where I would find tires. :hmm:

I also have a small and sad update. The truck is no longer running right. It started last week when it was surging for air, so I pulled out the dirty filter which solved the problem, and now after sitting for a week it sounded like a turd. It won't idle and is very hard to start. I put a different carb on it because the one on the truck was not working properly, and will need to get a rebuild kit for the other one because it is also gummed up. The plugs are all fouled really bad. I'll get it figured out eventually, but it just makes me sick since it was running perfectly not that long ago.

Well I suppose it's about time I update this thread after about a month... My dad and I figured out that the problem was the timing chain since it would always jump timing by one degree when started. We decided to tear the engine down and put a new chain and gear in it. I took advantage of the situation and painted most of the parts to add some class to my engine bay. It sure looks purdy! :D I'll post some pictures later. I also found a rust free radiator support last week at the Iola Old Car Show for only $40! :D I almost fell over when I heard the price! It's off of a 78, so I still have a some modifications to do to make it work. I couldn't find an inner fender for the passenger side, so I had to patch that one up, and it turned out nicely. I sent the grille, inner fenders, battery tray, radiator support and the upper valance to be sandblasted and will be picking them up tomorrow. I might be getting paint too, and my Grandpa is going to show me how to use the spray gun. All I need now are the fenders and a door skin which I will be getting new. Sorry for the long post, hope I didn't bore you guys too much.

No problems with the post at all. Some of us are glad to read about your progress when ours isn't so good. I love to see these old trucks get saved, and the quality of your work is just plain impressive. Good job and just remember how nice it's going to be driving that truck when it's done. :D

Thanks! :D I'm just itching to drive the old girl again. I hate having to wait to hear it run again, it's driving me crazy. Tomorrow I'll be painting all of the front clip components since they came back from sandblasting a few days ago. There must have been at least a hundred pin holes from the sandblasting on the pass. inner fender  , but what can you do. It only took be one day to finish it, so it didn't waste too much time.
