Re: 1968 F100 2wd style side short bed.
Ok so this weekend i got some stuff done. i sanded and painted the driverside inner fender and installed the pasanger side fender.
starting to look like a truck again.
I installed the new/remand f350 booster and f100 disc/drum MC. the booster is a cardone reman dual diaphram booster 54-73112, these are normally $95.99 at autozone 24core. they were only put on f350s and/or f250 with certain heavy duty packages, from 68-79 even though many f-series had them after market. thats what i found out anyway. these boosters are none cantilever-style bracket/linkage only.
i hant tested it yet but ive heard great things.
The MC is a fenco reman front disc rear drum M1779 for $15.99 $14 core. these were in 70-79 f100s mostly.
correct me if im wrong
i also got the headers installed. it was a bit snug on the driverside. i see now why a lot of you guys that have big blocks use the stock manifolds
look what i found in my garage in a box, if it aint broke dont fix it. but..... its so shiney and new

Looks awesome!! Can you tell us what supplier and part number are the booster and master?? (or at least what year F350 & F100) That looks like a dual diaphragm booster, do you know the diameter? Thank you very much and keep up the good work!

Re: 1968 F100 2wd style side short bed.
Excellent, thanks man.
You're right on the 53-73112, it's a 8.75" diameter dual that's very similiar to my 53-73311, except mine has the shorter rod to work with the lever-style brackets.
On the Fenco M1779, that MC is from 68-74 F250/350 with front disc brakes. I bought a Cardone 13-1617 MC that is spec'd for a 73 F100 with disc/drum, and it won't fit my 53-73311 booster. The mounting holes are just 1/8" too narrow, and it's outputs are on the engine side. (no big deal, but I prefer the fender side exits)
Looks like I need to return it and get the M1779, thanks again for the info!!

Re: 1968 F100 2wd style side short bed.
small update, i bought a new battery tray, and im saving up for an exhaust system. im going 2.5 or 3" pipes with an H-pipe off of my headers. with 40 series delta flow flowmasters.
has anyone put 3" exhaust pipes on a small block? someone at work says 3" is usually used for big blocks

Re: 1968 F100 2wd style side short bed.
2 1/4 would be fine. I used 3 inch once.....on a 4 cylinder turbo Shelby Dodge that was a GT eater. For a small block N/A motor you don't need the flow nor the expense of 3 inch. 2 1/2 is more than you'd need too.

Re: 1968 F100 2wd style side short bed.
I'd say 3" is overkill too...some back pressure is a good thing. 2-1/4 or 2-1/2 is what I'd recommend and it depends on how 'built' your small block is. If you already have several performance upgrades and/or are planning on more over time, I'd go with 2-1/2".
Somewhere online there is a chart of recommended sizing for horsepower ranges.
BTW...I like the rest of your choices. It would seem that people either love Flowmasters or hate 'em. I have a pair of 40's on my '69 and I love their sound (390FE and long tube headers with 3" collectors reduced to 2-1/2)!

Re: 1968 F100 2wd style side short bed.
yeah its a mean sound, people constantly compliment the sound of the 67 fairlane conv. all the time. my old GTA people thought was big block when it was only a bone stock 289. both had flowmaster 40series.F100builder wrote: BTW...I like the rest of your choices. on my wife's request im getting delta flow 40series. as she loves the sound but hates the resonance in side the vehicle.
ive come to realize on the subject of the love/hate for the flowmasters. its all about the octaves or how loud they can be. only ooooold farts seem to like the magna flows. i love the sound of them for sure and they allow better flow then the flowmasters (go figure) but a magna flow is in all basics a glass pack. and to be fare all a flow master is, is a straight pipe . but the sound of magna flows are sooo similar to glass packs which explains the the following for magna flow.
personally the sound of flowmasters 40series can be easily toned down by simply running narrower pipes.
for example my GTA i sold was running 2-1/2 in pipes and my conv. is running 2in pipes, while my 64 f100 is running 2- and quarter. all with 40series flowmasters and all with 289s under the hood. the wider the pipe the louder it is, there fore the quietest vehicle is the fairlane convertable. thats just my
ive never has 3" thanks for the info. ill stick to smaller pipes.

I seen you were thinking about making the show in Branson the 2nd weekend in July. Will you be there? I have made our reservations & plan on driving our truck in. If you do plan on making it I would like to get together when we both are there. Nothing like putting faces with names.

I should have my valve springs, retainers & locks on Thursday. Gives me plenty of time to get the new cam in. I don't know who else might show up from here. I talked with BJ from Show Me F100s & she said the core of the club & show is fendered trucks. All F100s can be judged (your choice). They do have a trophy for best '67-'72.
