Dang, I can't believe how fast you did that. I'm in a similar boat as you now. Darn city gave me a letter to "remove junk vehicles".

They can get you if it's in public view. That is why I have a work area in my back yard behind the garage, I keep everything legal and they can't say jack about my '66 Mustang rustbucke--- Project.OldRedFord wrote:1967AceStroker wrote:Dang, I can't believe how fast you did that. Re: 1969 F250 4x4 Highboy -3/9 69 body on highboy chassis
I am slowly doing little by little on it, but it aint good enough for somebody in the neighborhood. Its right out front in the driveway. They say it has to be in a completely enclosed area if it stays in an "inopperable" condition. The plate tags are good till 2013, cause when you get classic plates here you have to pay for 5 years in advance. My neighbor got a notice on his 71 Mach 1 too. Its able to drive, just expired plate tags. I know who complained about it, and they have a broken snow plow tractor thats been sittin' in the driveway for a year.GSequoia wrote:They can get you if it's in public view. Re: 1969 F250 4x4 Highboy -3/9 69 body on highboy chassis
Well i spent all day working on the truck, as usual
I got dad down to come help this time for body mounting and engine starting. We got the front cab mounts mounted, two rear bed bolts in, front clip pretty much done and secure. Then we got the brake and clutch together, and got the steering hooked up. Then we tackled the engine for the rest of the day. First we rigged everything up (coil power and such) and after a bit we found we had no spark. swapped out the coil, distributor and secured the body ground wire. Then we had spark, no fuel so we ran a fuel line to a gas can, through the pump to the carb and the pump is barely doing anything. So tomorrow i am swapping out the fuel pump with a spare. Then it should fire. We have only gotten a few pops.
Should be DRIVING it home tomorrow

Exactly... but it will be running, driving and registered which is all i need. my dad needs to make me a nice sign (with the tools at work) that says "It drives, it's registered, don't bother calling the city" Then I'll park it in front of my neighbors house

Re: 1969 F250 4x4 Highboy -3/9 69 body on highboy chassis
Well we couldn't get the 390 to start at first, just back fires. Then a buddy walks over and suggests the distributor is 180 off... it was, fixed that and it started right up. Now it starts after a second or two of cranking. It sounds pretty good, but has a knock/tick which is probably a valve and/or lifter. the carb was spewing gas all over through the rod that connects the bowls so we had to get a new seal for that.
Then we had to use one of my race truck's on-board fire extinguishers to put out a nasty fire. we had a rag that got soaked in gas laying on the engine while the thing backfired. Ignited the rag, started melting everything on the engine like the wires and distributor. My dad grabbed the fire and through it, it landed on two gas tanks. grabbed it again, threw it and put it out with the fire extinguisher. scary.
Then I got to drive it home That was fun. The gears were grinding a little, the clutch wasn't fully engaging because we just hooked it up and the rod was out of adjustment. Brakes went out in the parking lot because the fluid ran dry so we just added some and they worked good enough.
Every pebble in the road feels like a speedbump in this thing, definately the worst ride ever but I really couldn't care less . It got back into my '71 racer later and it felt like i was on a pillow with it's modified suspension.
Got it home, threw a hood on it along with a license plate and now the neighbors can't do anything. Yay.
-Fixed clutch linkage, thought it wouldn't happen because a linkage part was missing but we found it on the ground.
-Assembled clutch/brake assembly along with gas pedal and linkage
-Installed all steering goodies
-wired/mounted headlights
-replaced bowl seal on carb
-installed radiator
-rigged up an ignition to inside the cab so i could disconnect it if stuff hits the fan. We ran a wire from the battery into the cab, twisted to antoher wire that ran to the coil. that's my ignition
-Rigged a gas can to the inner fender for fuel supply
I loveeee this stance
Interior is half way done. A ways to go though.
4 pedals, 2 sticks. I'm set
Race truck/chase truck (and tow).
As soon as i sell the 2wd chassis or part it out, the highboy is going in the side yard so i can take the bed back off, and fully rebuild the whole rear half of the chassis like i did with the 2wd chassis. I'll be painting the hood, re-sanding the whole truck and putting another coat or two over the whole truck. Also I am trying to figure out a way to mount some gas tanks. I think I will do the Mustang II swap in the rear when i restore the rear half of the chassis, along with my custom in-cab tank inside the bed with a nice cover. Or a custom fuel tanke/fuel cell where the saddle went on the drivers side so i can use my custom filler door i welded in.
Then I'm going to wait until this summer to pull the bed off for the 3rd time, tilt the cab back, pull the front clip off, and pull all the drivetrain for a total rebuild.
It's like I'm restarting with this project almost, I'll be doing everything i already did, just 4x4 now
