Thanks for the compliments! Are you sure about the brake shoes? I checked in a few manuals and they showed that the small shoes goes to the front so that is how I set them up.popeyes71 wrote:Looking good! The trucks on all fours again!
This morning my dad and I adjusted the brakes, the the parking brakes, and then bled the brakes. We bench bled the master cylinder and installed it last night so it would be ready for today. Everything works great and I didn't see any leaks so far, so that's a good sign. We got the shoe adjustment about as perfect as you can get because I could take my hands off the wheel while pressing the brake pedal and the truck stayed in a straight line.
I think a sense some exhaust work in the near future...

That cab mount on the L/S was probably a JC Whitney slide in cab mount. I have a pair on my 69 F100 I installed back in the late 80s.

You are right! I'm so embarrassed. I'm not sure what I was really thinking. I guess I should have just mentioned to make sure your self adjusters work properly before you put the brakes back together but I'm sure you did that. No problem popeyes, and yes, the self adjusters were working how they should. I'm really happy to have brakes again.
Any way, I got some big news about the truck! I got a really nice Christmas present... FENDERS!!!!
The fenders fit really nicely and with a little adjustment they will look even better. The lines are really crisp and line up really well with the doors and they are really well built. She's starting to look like a truck again! I even got the heater core installed a few days ago, but I don't have any pictures of that. I also got a new rag joint for it from NAPA for only about 18 bucks. Very well built, and it's also made in USA!

This truck was an old power company truck that was bought in the early 70s by a friends dad. It ran till 2000 and now is...well......a pile! Like I said I'm a new one to this site and can't figure out how to add pictures yet. As soon as I get it I'm sure I'll hook you up!

Hey guys, though I'd give a little update on the truck. I've been messing around with the front clip alignment over the past few days, and I think I got it where I want it, but the hood still might need some work. I had to shim the radiator support up 1/4". I wanted to make sure everything fit properly before the truck is painted so there wouldn't be any scratched paint. Good thing I did since it required some massaging here and there. The grille fits perfectly with the new fenders. The worst part of the whole deal was getting the doors where they needed to be so the fenders would be right.
Just as a side note, if you use a 73-79 radiator support the signal light wiring will not let the grille rest flat. We had to indent the area around it a little bit for it to fit properly.

Thanks guys! Now it's time for a little update. The truck finally has exhaust! Ordered the pipes through Napa, and they were a perfect fit. The only issue I had with installation was needing to remove the tranny cross member to fit the pipe on the pass. side. I was going to originally run the stock muffler, but I didn't like the sound so I went ahead and put a glass pack on it. Now the truck has a nice low rumble to it, and is surprisingly quiet.popeyes71 wrote:Looking good!
One step closer to being finished. As of now, the cab corners need to be welded so we can really go to town on filler/primer. Within the next few months the truck should be painted. I also only have less than a month until I get my driver's license! Hopefully the truck will be ready to go at the end of spring. I sure can't wait to take it for a drive!

And another good thing about putting all my time any money into this truck is that I have to much respect for it to abuse it. Now the Bronco on the other hand...
