1969 Ford PS Gear
Hi all, I think I'm in need of a new Ford/Saginaw PS gear. My steering is pretty sloppy with probably about 3 inches of play, and the wheel won't return itself to center after making a turn. My question is if anyone has had good luck with reman steering gears? A new unit is a little out of my budget right now, however I will save up for one of the remans are of poor quality. My main concern is whether or not remanufactured units have hard parts replaced instead of just new seals, I imagine this would depend on the remanufacturer but I'm not sure what the preferred brand would be. As a side note, does anyone know where the brake line bracket that bolts onto the steering gear should go? From what I can tell the steering box on my truck isn't original and was added later, so it's missing the bolt holes for the bracket. I'll throw up some pictures later to help explain.

Re: 1969 Ford PS Gear
I bought my remanufactured steering gear box from NAPA prior to reading the following thread, I have not replaced mine yet. If I had to do it over again I would have saved up my money and bought a Red Head unit. http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... =5&t=79860
Hope this helps!

Everyone swears by these guys CJ, (but I've always been forced to scrounge the bone yards for mine):

And for general info the rebuilt box is only as good as the builder.
I once wasted $65 on a rebuild kit, (only to find the sector shaft being scored once I opened the box up) so the seal would never seal...

Re: 1969 Ford PS Gear
I got on Redhead's site and found a listing for a 1970-79 Ford style power gear, this would fit 60's truck's too wouldn't it? I'm pretty certain my power steering setup is from a 70-72 anyway, but just to make sure I figured I would ask. In regards to my other question about a brake line bracket, I found a helpful image on their website! With a manual steering box there is a brake line bracket that bolts to the two studs circled. I still have the bracket but it's hanging loose in my engine bay since it no longer has anything to attach to. Is there a similar bracket for PS trucks or a way to attach mine? Or should I simply get rid of it?

There are some tech images here that may help, go to Diagrams and Schematics, then go to section B, brake assemblies and related components, then go to Brake Booster (Vacuum) Dash Mounted, after the diagram opens up click on it and it will enlarge.

Re: 1969 Ford PS Gear
Thank you for that, I did find the appropriate diagram and have the pictured bracket labelled 2A275 on my truck right now, however examining the diagram I do not see a bracket that fits the Ford gear instead, the other bracket pictured looks to fit the Bendix gear. Are Ford gear equipped trucks only supposed to have the bracket labelled 7507?

Re: 1969 Ford PS Gear
I have a 1972 F250 with power steering and it has the 2A275 part on it, this bracket is for holding the brake lines in position. My truck has the Ford/Saginaw power steering box. Here is a link, That has the conversion to power steering which has pictures of the two types of steering gear boxes. There is another diagram that shows the brake hydraulic system which shows the manual vs. the power steering 2A275 brackets. It is located again in the Diagrams & Schematics, Section B; Brake Assemblies and related components. It is the one called Hydraulic Brake Systems 1967-1972 F100/350 (4X2).
