Re: Gap in the steering wheel
The steering wheel is fixed to the steering shaft, which is fixed to the steering box thus it is not going to move. You have to move the steering tube UP toward the steering wheel to close the gap. Loosen the clamp on the tube that's in the engine compartment and under the dash. Once loosened, move the tube up to the desired position then tighten.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.

Hi Mach428... I must be missing something I loosened the collet(engine bay) and the column clamp(cab) and the outer tube will not move at all?? Any idea what I'm doing wrong?Mach428 wrote:The steering wheel is fixed to the steering shaft, which is fixed to the steering box thus it is not going to move. Re: Gap in the steering wheel
Then it's stuck. If you look at the clamp under the steering column inside the cab, you'll notice that the mounting holes are elongated for the purpose of adjusting the column tube up and down. The steering shaft and steering wheel are fixed
You may have to put some penetrating oil at the point where the tube meets the firewall flange and the mounting clamp inside the cab. These are the only two points that holds the tube in place.

Re: Gap in the steering wheel
Your column bearing retainer cones are locking it down, that's their job. You'll have to remove your steering wheel and wiggle the top one loose. Also, when you do that, the lower bearing retainer and clamp will have to be reinstalled snugly.
