OK,

I’ll hand it to NPD, they really bent over backwards to try to fix this, they have sent 2 additional rotors and todays arrival matches the fully matched one out of the first batch, I’ll have to get it painted and installed when I get a chance.

The Mustang check valve worked although it still was not quite as tight as the on that was on the Truck.

I haven’t done much else to it... I’ll have to get back on it when pressure at work is off a bit.

Good to know and hear NPD has some good customer service! Looking forward to seeing some progress on the truck.

So yesterday I got the new rotor installed, I have the brakes working pretty good and will get it aligned soon.

Going to dig the 9” chunk out and see if the gears survived storage in the garage.

I’m expecting that the rear end is about as far as I get in my plan for 2019 HRPT... :cuss:

So, still no Alignment been super busy at work and disinclined to do much else.

I did dig out the 9” parts and order a bearing kit so hopefully shortly after the first of the year we will be hanging the 9” back in it.

Well more Ranger 3.0L timing cover bolt carnage.

Image

Image

Ended up having to cut the timing cover off, it was practically welded to the remains of the bolt.

At least the engine is pretty clean inside.

Now, onto the project at hand.

There she is set up on a Hunter HawkEye

Caster and camber fell into pretty good numbers, the toe needed to be set of course, though I did pretty well with my laser, it was toed very slightly out to start with.

FWIW, adding the 4” blocks as detailed on the tech page - http://www.fordification.com/tech/alignment.htm made rather minimal difference though it was very close to 4” without blocks. We were able to place the blocks by simply pushing up on the bumper while the other slid the block into place. Hunters in machine instructions made no mention of the blocks. We both found it very strange to only have an adjustment for total toe. Props to Mark for putting up with me.

Now, hopefully next weekend I can get the rear end cleaned up, paint the housing and once that is done, I will have to get with Manny and see if we can get together and build the 9”. I have to order the new axle bearings too.

Forgot this:

From Bronco Graveyard. These are the wrong axle bearings as the axle bore is too large...

There is a crush sleeve eliminator in the box though I’m not sure we will use it or the crush sleeve.

I have the crush sleeve eliminator on both my 8.8 rears and when I had the 9" 3rd member built for my F100 my buddy put one on that as well. He loves them as they are super easy to set up and if you need to replace the pinion seal it makes it a lot easier just being able to retorque the pinion nut.

I was thinking the crush sleeve eliminator would make it easier.

Since Manny has offered to help me build it I’ll let him decide...

X2 on the crush sleeve eliminator. If you ever need to swap yoke or change pinion seal.

The axle bearings set 20 are the 1.562. tapered bearing with external seal. You probably need the 1.531 roller bearing with a separate seal inside axle tube. The set 20 is superior and what late model and aftermarket use. Unfortunately you are stuck with the old style unless you order new axles made for set 20

That is correct, I need the 1.53..

I think this is the one I need...

That looks right. Just be aware those are sealed bearings. As they wear you will get endplay. With drum brakes not an issue. With disc it becomes a problem. It bumps the caliper and pads apart.

I’m open to other suggestions on the bearings, I’ve got no intention of putting rear disc on it right now, but you just never can tell...

Unless you spec new axles you have no other bearing choices. If you spec new axles you also would need to consider brake offset dimension. The newer axles have a 2.5 offset which is what most disc kits use. You probably have 2.25 offset now. The other issue is axle ends. The later are " torino" or new big pattern. Older pre 77 are old big pattern. Slightly different. Just put new bearings on if you are keeping drums.

So all the bearings now available are sealed?
