Heavy Duty Special?
I was reading in the book 1971-72 Ford Truck Illustrated Facts & Feature Manual that there was a Heavy Duty Special package offered for those years. I was wondering if this was a dealer option, or did they come from the factory that way? I did not see a option package for the Heavy Duty Special in the options book. I see that NPD sells Heavy Duty Special emblems like the Camper Special emblems that went on the cowl sides of the truck. Did one emblem go on the glove box as well (like the Ranger emblem)? Any inputs or additional info on the Heavy Duty Special is appreciated.

For those who are interested here is what the 1971-72 Ford Truck Illustrated Facts & Feature Manual says about the Heavy Duty Special.
"(w/8' 4x2 Stylesides) Note: Lower capacity substitute options N.A. for package contents. Requires 5000-lb. GVW rating for F-100 and 7500-lb. GVW rating for F-250. Just wondering if anyone knew anything else about the Heavy Duty Special or was it such a rare package that little else is known about it. Any inputs appreciated.

Re: Heavy Duty Special?
Just sounds like a factory option. Wonder if they still did the contractor special in those years and this wasn't a replacement.

Re: Heavy Duty Special?
My 71 F100 4x2 Custom long bed was a Heavy Duty Special bought new by my grandfather. It had extra leaves with standard shackles (forget the count and they have long been replaced), 16 inch rubber, the badges, full gauges, chrome inside, color matched maroon seat and dashpad, PS cooler, 3.70 inch trac lok, and a 302 2V and C4.
It used to have a pretty pronounced stink bug stance, he bought it to carry a camper, no idea why he didn't go camper special back then, and he is no longer here to ask. Likely bought it off the lot
