Replaced power steering gearbox

Post by Gnick4 »

Added fluid, moved wheel back and forth to get air out. Now when I drive it it feeels like the steering wheel reaches a certain point(pressure) then rolls over too far. The gearbox was an exact replacement, fit in perfect. Rag joint new, same as everything underneath. Any thoughts on what I did wrong or need to do? Worked perfect before, just a major leak at the rag joint seal.
Thanks

Been fighting this exact same thing with a Chinese sourced replacement from Autozone. Try loosening the gear pre load stud on top and see if it helps. mine was way too tight and loosening it made the rack move freer but it still has tight and loose spots. Not a very good experience and I'm about to request another be sent since it has a free lifetime replacement.

It definitely sounds as though your adjustment is too tight. Driving one that is too tight is miserable.

Finally got the nut to turn. Seems to help a lot but still not quite smooth. I’ll adjust a little more and see how she drives tomorrow.

Thanks for the advice!
