1968 Lower Bearing Retainer

It is really not too big of a deal to disassemble to column - assuming you have the parts you need even taking your time and painting it you should be able to start and finish a Saturday with a driving truck...

The only parts I have are the replacement lower bearing. Are there others I should have on hand?

It is probably a good time to point out that it has been years since I had mine apart, but IIRC the upper and lower bearing are the same and they are cheap, I seem to recall some plastic disk at the shifter and I’d probably have horn contacts on hand too, unless I knew they were good.

Be as good of time as any to replace the PRNDL and pointer if they need it and the safety switch actuator is spring steel and may be brittle so it wouldn’t be a bad thing to have on hand either.

Basically, if you are going to pull it apart, I’d replace the wear items...

The upper and lower bearings are indeed the same. I will replace both. I know the horn contacts are good, and so in the PRNDL and the pointer. Not sure about the safety switch actuator. I'll look into that. Thanks for the input.

I'll try to remember to take some pictures when I take it apart and post them here.

I can’t remember if the NSS lever was broken already on mine or if it broke coming off. I do remember it wasn’t easy to get.
