72 F100 Gear Box Dilemma

Post by Jzbochat »

I have a 72 F100 2WD that originally came from the factory with power steering. PO dropped a 390 in instead of a 302 that came from the factory on my truck. I replaced the old 390 with a new rebuilt one, but I added headers to my build. All is good, but the gearbox is failing, and at speeds of 50+ the truck is very difficult to control due to the lack of steering/loose steering. Not to mention the leaks with the old, original gearbox. I've decided to replace the gearbox with a new one. Redhead Steering Gears makes a "quick turn" 15:1 vs the original 18:1. What makes a "quick turn" box so great? Is it better handling, or just purely for turning. Would my pickup benefit from this, or is it overkill?
