Tire dry rot
So, I’ve got a 72 f250 camper special that still has the original split rims on it. The tires still have a lot of tread on them but they do have some small cracks in them. My question is, since the tires have tubes in them should I be concerned about the cracking tires? Is it time to replace?

Re: Tire dry rot
Take them off and set them aside in the garage tires and all since they are original to the truck and go with a modern 1 piece rim.......split rims were dangerous enough and with tires that are cracking just makes it worse - and if a sidewall lets go the tube isn't gonna help any.........and I'm not even sure you can get tires to fit those rims anymore..........my from someone who has had a split rim come apart on our 1962 GMC pulling a grain wagon growing up on the farm............

Re: Tire dry rot
It all depends on what you use it for.
occasional use around town you should be fine .
I wouldn't take any long road trips .
It would ride a lot nicer with some modern tires , and I doubt you'll find any one to service those split rims.
(they can be deadly)
So keep your eyes open for a good deal in the future.

I wouldn't go further than you can walk home or faster than you can stop on three wheels.
