Manual Brake Conversion

Post by pchelp101 »

Could someone point me to the article on how to swap in a power booster for the FE pickups? I have a donated power booster and MC from a 94' Ranger I would like to install on my F100

I'll go ahead and say it as no one else wants to...
I have never seen an "article" here on "how to swap in a power brake booster" before. :hmm:
Here is the tech tutorial on "how to convert your drum brakes to disc brakes":
http://www.fordification.com/tech/discbrakes01.htm

You playing with fire here! You don't take a 94 Ford Ranger, (that probably weighs 2000 pounds less than a 67-72 Ford truck) brake booster and expect it to stop the truck as it did the Ranger. :nono:
Get the proper brake booster, (and matching MC) and it's a bolt in application / even swap in one from the dent era (that eliminates the firewall brackets that are so hard to find) and you and everyone who rides in your truck will be so...glad!
I believe that you can source the correct booster from PepBoys / O'Rielly's / Auto Zone / or Discount Auto.

Thank you basket, I saw string from another site but I believe it may have just been a MC swap and not the booster and MC.

Have you seen a write up from anyone installing one of the aftermarket drum to disc conversion kits? Finding a donor truck is getting impossible.

Aftermarket gets kind of pricey https://www.summitracing.com/parts/clp- ... odel/f-100

For a power brake master cylinder and booster alone, check out http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... =5&t=77735 Since the Photobucket scam going on the photos have been lost but the write up includes all the pertinent information. Steve's photos are still available in his thread over on the "Dark Side" https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1475 ... ility.html

Ultraranger and Craigerf100 have both posted about upgrading their brakes. Here's one I found with a quick search - unfortunately the pics are missing thanks to Photobucket's underhand marketing tactics, but it's a good write up.

It would be the best $180 spent on the truck-to stop it when the cooper mini thinks he can zip in front of you.
Yeah the photobucket thing has me throwing wrenches at the wall too guys. Time to move to flikr or somewhere else for photos?

I was sent this link from another blog. This is only for the adapter kit, throw in the calipers, rotors, MC and the price is $650. The thing that drives me nuts is they use Dodge RAM rotors and GM calipers! :cuss: Why isn't there a vendor that can make a adapter kits and use Ford parts ?!?!?! I know Ford trucks came with disc brakes in the 70's !
