brake booster vac hose location? '67 352 FE

Post by Carb »

I ordered a brake booster for my '67 f100 352. That model originally had no brake booster.

Where do I plug the booster vacuum hose in? diagram is vague. looks like the manifold or back of carb (spacer plate?).

I have seen notes there may be a plug on the manifold i am supposed to use. Is this correct? anyone have a pic they can show me?

Thanks in advance,

carb

There should be a plug at the back of your manifold that is connected to one of the runners. This is the best place since it is away from turbulence at the carburetor. Remove the plug and screw in a nipple (available from most auto part stores)

No sure what you mean by runners?

I saw in one photo a spot on the manifold, looking from the front, on the left of the carb on the manifold. I will check there and report back.

Runners are the raised portion that goes to each cylinder bank

Thank you! I did see that, it is currently occupied by a small thin curved hose, looks like part of the pcv(?) unit?

:hmm: If that 's the hose from the PCV, then that should be connected to a port on the back of the carb spacer or carburetor itself.

Sorry, I don't know what all that mess is behind your carb. The only hard tube application coming from an intake that I can think of is a line going to the modulator valve on an automatic transimission. Not sure what that canister next to your firewall is for and is that a hose coming from it going into your firewall? And that also has a hose going to the base of your carb? Maybe you have a water cooled carb spacer? I've heard of them but have no experience with them. Somebody a little more knowledgeable in FE engine accessories is going to have to chime in here on that one.

Thanks for responding. It does look a little confusing. If we start at the carb, the piece coming off the T vertically (which appears to disapper into the firewall) is actually the hose that comes off the valve cover (i had to swing it out of the way to get the shot). so it appears to be part of the EGR system i suppose. The blocked port on the left is what I closed off after removing the Thermactor.

so for some reason that thin hose is pulling a vacuum into the manifold from that strange cap unit, i am guessing as part of the emissions system?

If that's just emissions stuff then I would disconnect, remove, and cap/plug anything that's attached. First thing I do with any older vehicle, when emissions is not required in my area, is get rid of it all. Run a hose from the PCV in the valve cover to the port at the back of the carb/spacer and use that port in the intake, where the metal line is, to provide the vacuum source to the brake booster.
