1967 F100 Brake Hose Fit Problem

I have new front brake hoses that will not fit. The brake cylinder end just touches the king pin enough where it will not thread in. The fittings on the old ones, factory I assume, are just a little smaller in diameter and about 1/4" or so longer.

I've tried BrakeBest, #BH49927 and Duralast #88423. Next up will be NAPA #UP 36531 and Carquest/Advance #BHA4992.

Anybody have a good part# that will work?

As soon as I get out to the shed I'll look and see what brand I used - I kept the end on the box with all the receipts in case I ever needed to get another one.....

When I ran into problems finding front brake hoses for my 4WD truck a few years ago I took the old ones to the local NAPA and the employee measured them and looked in a book that had hoses categorized by fitting type and length. We were able to put together something that fit. I don't remember the details now, but I recall that I was unable to find the parts by the normal method; perhaps the original types were no longer in production. I would not have been able to do this without the old-school approach.

Just discovered that while the larger diameter fitting of the new hose doesn't help, it's the brake cylinders that are causing the problem. The angle of the fitting hole is at an angle that moves the hose fitting closer to the king pin.

Now I need to find a correctly made cylinder. Right now NAPA is my only hope. Everyone else in town either doesn't carry it, the fitting angle is wrong or the bleeder screw is pointing straight at the king pin and not angled away from it.

Sigh...

Not sure if this helps, but I just converted my '67 F250 to discs, and this is what I found:

1. The '72 calipers are threaded 3/8", instead of 7/16 ('68 - '71 are 3/8"), and

2. The driver-side caliper and passenger-side caliper had swapped numbers, so I had to use the driver caliper on the passenger side, and vice-versa.

This means that you might have a better fit if you swap wheel cylinders, and get a hose with a smaller threaded end. If the bleeders are facing back, then you need to swap them. Also, make sure to get a set of flare nut wrenches (I think that I paid $10 for a set of three at AutoZone). These 50-year-old fittings are pretty snug, and brass is pretty soft.

My NAPA numbers are also 36531 for the drum cylinder hosess.

The NAPA cylinders did the trick! You can see in the first pic how close things are with the new hose and cylinder. The other shows the improved clearance due to the factory hose fitting's smaller diameter and longer length. With the last new cylinders I tried the fitting was moved to the right towards and beyond the king pin.

The part #'s of the NAPA cylinders are 37083 and 37084
