brake problem

Post by 1guydude »

If ur reading all my posts and problems. Thank you. lol
Brakes on my 67' u have to pump and even than u have to stand on em to stop the truck, No E brake as im guessing the two cables that are supposed to link up to the back have broke. The master cylinder piece looks just as old if not older than the truck.

Gonna get all new drum set ups and bleed the lines and maybe the master if I have too.
Sound right?
thanks again

are your brakes power or manual?
e-brake doesn't really have anything to do with the brake pedal used for stopping the truck. cold be working poorly due to the cable broke or bad rear shoes / drums, or just out of adjustment.

pretty sure its manual. The master cylinder looks to be In terrible condition. old and rusty.
didn't try and open it up even. More time this weekend to work on the truck.

If you have power brakes there will be a vac line to a round "drum" looking thing behind the master cylinder.

I'd recommend changing all the soft brake lines and putting in new wheel cylinders if they're old/leaky or of unknown age :2cents:

If you put in new wheel cylinders, the bleeders need a metric wrench (10mm), even though it's for a 50-year-old American pickup.

Based on your level of knowledge of the braking system, I would recommend you take it to a professional mechanic in the interest of public safety.
