Crown Victoria Big Brake Kit Options

Post by Aerocoupe »

I know that Bear at one time made a 14" kit (not sure if they do anymore so I emailed them) and TCE makes four kits (http://www.tceperformanceproducts.com/marauder/kits-17/) for these front ends. Does anyone else know of a big brake kit for these front ends?

I've just spent some time plowing through 50 pages of posts about a budget 14" brake set up for CVs using GT500 rotors and Corvette style calipers. I believe it's the one Hackster (Sean) is currently using.

I ran across that one too. Looks very promising. I priced all the parts and came out right around $600 all in. I am seriously considering it as the brakes that came with my CV front will need to be replaced so if I am going to spend $300 for new rotors, calipers, and flex lines I might as well get better brakes.

I also have a buddy in Houston that is a millwright and CAD designer who makes adapters for brakes like the 13" Cobra brakes on stock 65-70 Mustang spindles and a slew of other adapters. I have been talking with him and we are looking at 13" Mustang Cobra rotor (SN95), 13.23" Mustang EcoBoost/V6/Coyote Mustang rotor (S197), and the 13.98" Mustang GT 500 rotor (S197). He is pretty sure he can make the adapter for a bit less than the guy in the Marauder thread so that would be about the only change there as the caliper design needs to be the C5 Vette design to clear 18" wheels. He and I both would like to see if we can use the stock 13.23 rotors and calipers off the S197 GT cars as well as the 13" Cobra rotors and calipers off the SN95 cars. This would just give more options and possibly help with any brake bias issues that would come about depending on the rear brakes to be used in conjunction with one of these setups.

I have no idea how far we will get on this as it may be that the 14" GT500 rotors and the C5 Vette calipers are just the way to go. If that is the case then a person would just have to work up a rear brake package to get the bias right for the application. I know there are several different rear disc brake kits for the 9" so no sense in reinventing the wheel there.

So I bought these adapters and all the parts to do the conversion. More and more folks are doing this on the Marauders and Crown Vics as well as those that have used the Panther IFS for a project vehicle. Jerry is the guy over on MM that makes the adapter brackets and has just posted that he has a new run ready for shipping. I believe they are $165 a set with all the bolting and shipping. Just thought I would post up in case anyone was wanting a set for their project with the CV IFS.

I would guess that most of you guys are not members there so his email is Lji_372 at yahoo.com

My suggestion would be to get the brake lines for Zack's kit from TCE. These are way better than building some with adapters like Zack did on his first rendition of the "kit". You will have to call or email TCE and ask Todd if they have any made up. I imagine you look at a SS braided line for the Corvette C5 caliper and figure out how to make it work but TCE made sure that these would clear big wheels and what not on a CV so that is why I went with them. TCE also makes brake kits for the CV using Wilwood calipers and they are very nice kits but pricey.

So I just ordered the SS braided lines from TCE and they were $88. Wanted to let anyone know interested in buying a set that to order them to go to this page on their site:

http://www.tceperformanceproducts.com/marauder/kits-17/

At the top of the page you will see a gray colored box and just below it a white box with "Marauder SS hose kit" in it. There is a drop down menu and you just select "Zack Front only kit $88.00 USD" and buy them through PayPal.

Also, if you want to see what comes with the kit here is a picture of the four line kit (front and rear). Todd at TCE let me know that the front only kits also come with the correct hardware.
