1968 F100 2 wheel drive Ranger

Post by rsjohnsn »

Ok, first of all, I'm not sure if this belongs here or in a different forum so if it needs to be moved feel free. I have just recently come up on a 1968 F100 Ranger SWB 2x4. This truck is original with a little over 144k miles. The motor (360) will start the second turn over and runs great will a little sputter until she warms up. There is no rust anywhere except the lower corner of the drivers door. The paint is original red/white two tone but faded. The bed has never had anything hauled in it and has always had a camper top on it from day one. Someone did however steal the tailgate about 10 years ago and he never replaced it. The seat needs recovered and the front grill has a little ding on the passenger corner. The wheels are even original all the way down to the hubcaps. What is a truck like this worth? He has priced it to me for $2000.

Thanks
Scott

I don't know the max value, but imo it's worth the 2k. jd
ps- it never hurts to offer less(have greenbacks in hand) and see what happens

It sounds like a very clean truck!! Yea, make an offer--but if the truck is that clean it would probably be worth the price. You can spend a lot of $$ quickly repairing things and it doesn't sound like this rig needs much--sans tail gate!

Yeah that price sounds like ballpark range.
I paid $1,500 for Jethro a few years ago despite the fact that it was originally a work (Contractor Special) truck it was exceptionally cancer and dent free, although he needed (and still does) a paint job.
Since then I've invested (Dumped) at least $2,000 more into him (suspension, reupholstered bench seat, wheels & tires, etc).
So if everything else checks out okay I'd give it the Thumbs up for it.
Offer $1,500 and bring cash then go from there.
That should at least save you a couple hundred :$$: clams :$$: !

Lower end SWB's, similar to what you described, are selling for about $800 on eBay unseen. After that you have to transport, etc., so $2,000 is not out of line. Check front suspension and tires, not having to spend money in these areas makes vehicle more valuable and immediately usable. :2cents:

I paid $1200 for my Hiboy, and it was (and still is) in very rough shape.
I'd say go for it- in a hurry!

Ok guys, I am buying the truck. I am meeting the owner at around 1:30 to settle up. I will keep everyone informed. Oh yeah, I will have some Ranger trim pieces for sale if anyone is interested especially the lower body moldings.

Thanks
