1969 F250 4x4 Highboy 7/9 rubicon

Nothing like taking a truck that runs and drives and tearing it down to bare rolling chassis one day

-Disassembled interior and unbolted the bed/cab and front clip
-PUlled the body off
-Pulled engine,tranny, t-case, driveshafts
-Pulled rear shocks off
-Removed wiring

-Other stuff!


My dad, brother, me, and my mom (yes, my mom!) lifted the bed off first. That was a big PITA. Then the cab felt like it was 20 pounds and was no problem to carry all the way off the chassis.
I unbolted hte front clip and my dad and i grabbed that off. As well as the hood.
Don't even ask how we are going to get the body back onto it...


In two weeks this sucker will look brand new



LOTS of degreasing, cleaning and painting to do. As well as disassembling and assembling to paint everything.


This is the cleanest the garage has ever been (well atleast after i was born )
I should have plenty of work space.


Alllllmost ready to get winched up onto the trailer and head to sand blasting. Just need to pull off a couple more things.
It will be blated and painted as a rolling chassis. I am not restoring these leaf springs and replacing the bushings because i am going to either get new springs or build my own (probably build my own)... which will get painted and new bushings.

Oh and this just in -
A new 22 gallon mustang tank is on it's way from a fellow fordification member! I'm going to cut out the rear crossmember and move it back and build a frame for that. I'm hoping for a hinged license plate filler but will probably just go to the bed floor.

Gosh I think you've broken the record for the most work done to a Bumpside in a single day! And the previous record seems to have been held by a guy named Ryan, when he swapped a red and white body on to a 4x4 chassis a few months ago.

Okay, I have never seen anyone but a complete seven member team take a truck apart that quick. You sure can move with these things.

Thanks guys! It all went very smoothly.

Exhaust came off in 5 minutes. Manifold bolts didn't brake the and the nuts came right off after the initial snap of braking them loose. Exhaust pipe hanger nuts came off in seconds after the rusted bolts broke on all of them.
Engine/tranny came out in 15 minutes. Popped the tranny bolt out, pulled engine mount bolts and a couple lines and it was out. T-case was more of a pain, taking the driveshafts off took a good hour. stupid little nuts. Then the t-case almost dropped to the ground but I managed to keep it on the jack as i lowered it somehow.

Tomorrow I need to make another adapter for my dad's tahoe so the brake lights work on the car trailer.
The car trailer is 73" wide. The highboy's front tires are 74" inches wide. It will work fine but why couldn't my boss have just bought a 1" wider trailer

I got the same reaction with my tt600 dirt bike rebuild that i did in one weekend.





I can't stand working slow... I keep thinking of how much i can't wait to drive the restored highboy that i have been working on for 2 full years.

Awesome work Ryan, and I know what you mean... those long beds are heavy! I was on the other side of a 2 man long bed yank once, ouch.

Today's work.

Pulled steering stablizer, steering box, engine mounts, cut off the front shocks, pulled rear bumper, and spent a good 3 hours relocating the rear cross member getting ready for the mustang tank.

Never did like peg shocks. Can't get the thing to not turn as you take the nut off. So they met mr. sawzall.







I don't know what i'm doing for a rear bumper. I guess i'll have this 200lb beast sandblasted nad put it back on for now.

Just checked my work schedule. No work tomorrow (monday) and no work Thursday. Turn around period for sandblasting chassis is 3 to 4 days.

Mom and dad are switching cars tomorrow, I am dropping the chassis off with the Tahoe tomorrow and I am picking it up Thursday! Ahead of schedule! woo!
Next weekend is a short course offroad race so i won't get much work done, i'll be gone. It will be painted in about a week though. I should ahve the drivetrain degreased tomorrow after i get back from dropping the chassis off.

I can't decide if I want to fully rebuild a 390 and build it for towing, or if i want to build a 300 for towing and mpg's, or possibly a 4bt cummins for the 25mpg's...

So the chassis is now at american stripping in sacramento, getting blasted. PIcking it up Thursday.

Mean while i will be cleaning and painting the drivetrain
