Dont worry, I did the same thing on my Valiant parts car. You must customize your work ya' know!

yep i welded up the seams above the bump and the vertical ones at the end of the bed and grinded them down flus. I am going to go over them with a good seam sealer, fiberglass or filler. im not sure which yet.

That is off of a dentside
Dentsides have the same underbed tank placement, meaning i can just get a filler neck and the box (that goes behind the door) and know where exactly to weld in the door. I need to do some alligning on the door, its a tad bit off. I might fill in the gaps a little more around the door so its more slick but im not sure. We will see how it looks on the truck first.

Did somebody say 1/16" of mud??? :hn:

Looks good. I stopped before trying to weld the bed seam I have some rust through on mineand a lot of deep pitting and I know what the welder is going to do to the metal when I get into that...

BTW, the bondo 'gold' worked out pretty well for me, but try to get it in the gallon size, I have around five quarts in the cab alone...

i said 1/6th, not 1/16th :? Basically i plan to go no deeper than 1/8th.
I will be getting the Gold in a gallon too. 5 quarts in just the cab? I dont know if ill even use a gallon on the whole truck, i see alot will be used on the bed but not THAT much . How deep were you going with it?

Then again im sure ill use more than i think, alot will be sanded off.

Yea, most of it ends up on the floor, walls, ceiling, in your tool box, every crevice in your body, etc. Depends upon how good you are. If you don't put enough on and have to redo it, OR if you sand too much off and have to redo it. With practice you can put on about the right amount (not too much, because of course it has to be sanded off) the first time, sand it once and be ready for primer. There are a thousand pitfalls-I find sometimes I don't cover a big enough area-then there's not enough to feather properly. Use the longest sanding block that is practical, this helps too.

why would you have to redo it if you get if you dont put enough on? in that case i would just apply more to just the low spot, let dry and block the filler area some more. then do a final skim coat over the whole filler area.

That's exactly what I mean by redo, basically just doing it again. I didn't mean actually taking it back to metal and starting completely over.
But when you get good you can avoid this. I usually don't do that well, but I have seen others who consistently can.

-Got a bunch of FREE autometer gauges 8)
-Went junkyardin', picked up trim, dent steering linkage, trim, and fuel fillre box
-Patched in dentside filler door which took a hefty 5 hours
-pulled/banged dents out of new hood, found FORD holes and welded up bracket holes/other stupid holes.

Free gauges. i will buy a new ranger cluster from DC, then have a flip down panel hinged on the bottom of the dash with tranny temp, oil pressure, and volt meter. The tach will go on the column i guess :dk

And thats pretty much it.

All i have left of metal work is... well nothing really
It's time to start spending my scraped up money on paint stuff. I need... 2.0 tip for my spray gun, gallon of filler, fiberglass filler, sandpaper, flexable blocks, epoxy primer/activator, high build primer/activator, reducer, filters, more airline.. i colud go on....

I have always wanted to do a bedside filler door like you did. Its getting closer and closer to being done everytime I check this thread, you make good progress. Before you know it you'll be crusin' the streets in the coolest bump, or vehicle around.
